Read the River

Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective August 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how DCPz LLC (“DCPz,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use Read the River.

Information you provide

Information created through use

We process device and application information needed to provide and secure the service, such as device notification tokens, app version, time zone, request logs, and operational diagnostics. We also store the Rivers, Bends, Current Facts, Today’s Current editions, and related product state created for your account.

Location

Read the River does not perform background location tracking. When you ask to monitor news “near me” or use similar relative language, the iPhone app may request one-time, approximate, When-In-Use location access. Apple’s geocoding services convert that location into human-readable place names. Only those place names—not coordinates—are sent to Read the River to refine your request.

How we use information

We use information to provide and personalize the service, monitor the news topics you request, generate source-backed summaries, deliver notifications, maintain security, diagnose problems, respond to support, and comply with law.

Service providers

We use specialized providers to operate Read the River, including Apple for iOS distribution, notifications, location and geocoding; Supabase for authentication and database services; Railway for application hosting; hCaptcha for abuse prevention; and replaceable news and artificial-intelligence providers for reporting retrieval and analysis. Providers process information under their own terms and our applicable agreements.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with service providers acting on our behalf, when you direct us to, to protect rights and safety, or when required by law or a valid legal process.

Retention and deletion

We retain information for as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, and maintain security. You may permanently delete your account from within the app. Deletion removes the account and associated product data, subject to limited retention required for security, legal compliance, backups, and fraud prevention.

Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

Read the River is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your choices

You may adjust monitoring and notification settings in the app, decline location access, or delete your account. You may also contact us to ask about your information.

Changes

We may update this policy as the product develops. We will post the revised policy here with a new effective date and provide additional notice when required.
